ZuckerBäckerball - The sweet ball night of Viennese bakers and confectioners! Hofburg in the heart of the city is transformed into Vienna's sweetest ballroom for one evening. This year, the organisers will once again ensure that the ball night on Thursday, 12 January 2023 will be unforgettable with very special ideas and delicacies.
The ZuckerBäckerball is one of the oldest and most traditional balls in Austria. Every year - interrupted by two pandemic breaks - more than 3,000 visitors stream into the magnificent halls of the Vienna Hofburg, in whose premises the ZuckerBäckerball will now take place for the 11th time.
In addition to atmospheric dancing, the 120th ZuckerBäckerball offers a colorful potpourri of entertaining program highlights - as well as numerous cakes and sweet temptations for the 3,000 visitors.
MUSICAL PROGRAMME
Two orchestras provide music in Festsaal, the ballroom, from 9:45 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.: the renowned Viennese ball orchestra Wolfgang Steubl stands for a large repertoire of classical dance music. Alternating with Wolfgang Steubl Big Band, who bring a lively variety on the dance floor.
In addition, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. in Zeremoniensaal, the ceremonial hall, André Wright and Band will provide soul classics, disco hits as well as modern club sounds that will make you want to dance.
Meanwhile, temperament is required in the Caribbean Lounge in the Forum – hot Latino rhythms with lots of power from Carla Natascha & Band will make your hips swing from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.! In addition, there will be live Latin dance shows at 11.30 p.m. and 1 a.m. as a feast for the eyes.
From 10:30 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., the Hitradio Ö3 Balldisco rocks the garden hall of the Hofburg until the early hours of the morning.
BALL PROGRAMME
20:00 – Doors open
21:00 – Grand opening of the ball in the banquet hall (Festsaal). The entire opening will be streamed live in the ceremonial hall (Zeremoniensaal)
In 2022, the “Vereinigung Wiener Staatsopernballett” will open the ball for the sixth time. The solo dancers Irina Tsymbal and Mihail Sosnovshi will dance to Josef Strauss Son’s “Roses from the South Op. 388” with choreography by Lukas Gaudernak.
A performance by awarding-winning star guest, violinist Yury Revich. The musician will receive this year’s Celebrity Cake (Prominententorte).
The opening will be completed by the opening committee of the Wiener Tanzschulen (Vienna Dance Schools) who will perform a dance to Josef Strauss Son’s “Radetzky March” under the direction of Richard Fränzl and Eddy Franzen.
21:45 – Alles Walzer! (Everybody waltz!) - The dance floor will open to all guests.
23:15 – “Flying Ströck Balloons”: For those lucky enough to pop a balloon with one of the Ströck bakery vouchers inside can look forward to sweet surprise. Each voucher can be redeemed in the Entreezimmer on first floor.
23:50 – Midnight Quadrille and presentation of the Celebrity Cake, followed by the prize giving ceremony for the Zuckerbäcker Awards.
1:30 – “Juilus Meinl Coffe Cocktail Rain”: snatch a prize – each balloon filled with a prize voucher wins either one of 50 Mainl Coffee Cocktails or even three Meinl coffee machines. Cocktail prizes can be picked up at the Meinl Café at Trabantenstube, the coffee machines are to be fetched at Entréezimmer on first floor.
2:30 – “Auer Lucky balloon shower”: each balloon wins and can be exchanged into a sweet surprise from Auer confectionery. The prizes can be picked up in the Entreezimmer on first floor.
5:00 – Final dance

Ticket information
Upon leaving the Hofburg your ball ticket loses validity.
Smoking
Smoking is strictly prohibited in the Hofburg for the duration of the ball with the exception of the outdoor area at the main entrance Heldenplatz. (see layout of the Hofburg here). We ask all ball guests to adhere to this policy and to follow any instructions give by the security personnel. The smoking ban also encompasses the use of e-cigarettes.
Video recording and images
Each guest of the ball (i.e. the ticker holder) grants us the permission to record (TV, photos, video, etc.) ball guests during the event and this footage may be used in future (no restrictions) by Verein Förderung des Lebensmittelgewerbes without any form of compensation.
