The press conference began on time at 11:00 a.m. "Ballmutti" vice-honorary consul Prof. Birgit Sarata invited a diverse range of guests. Press representatives, TV teams and Austrian celebrities made their way to downtown Vienna to hear the unveiling of a name that had long been kept secret.
Since 2009, a cake has been made by a confectioner for a well-known personality. The presentation of the sweet work of art takes place at midnight and is one of the highlights of the ZuckerBäckerballs.
In January at the 120th ZuckerBäckerball, the celebrity cake will be handed over to the Austrian violinist Yury Revich. The famous violinist also gave a musical performance.
As vice honorary consul Prof. Birgit Sarata emphasised: "Yury Revich is a dazzling violinist. He is not only enjoying great success in Austria but also on international stages. He is a real hit!"
Dr Kurt Schebesta, the ball organiser, added: "Once again this year when the ball begins, we will be concentrating on classical music because it fits the Viennese ball tradition. Yury Revich is a world-famous violinist, the ball guests will be truly inspired!"
A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO YURY REVICH
Yury Revich is one of the most sought-after contemporary violinists. Despite his young age, the Austrian violinist of Russian origin has already received a number of prizes and awards on an international level.
The talent seems to run in the family, as his great-grandfather, grandfather and father were all successful violinists. Revich has been playing the violin since he was five. In May 2009 he made his Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 18 and in 2013 he performed Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto at La Scala in Milan. He is a co-founder of the concert series Friday Nights with Yury Revich, initiated in Vienna in 2015.
From 2016 to 2022 Revich played on a Stradivarius from 1709, currently he plays on a Guarneri on loan from Lukas Hufnagl.
