Since 2009, an exquisite cake has been created each year by a renowned pastry chef in honour of an outstanding public figure. Its ceremonial presentation at the stroke of midnight has long been one of the most radiant highlights of the ZuckerBäckerball.
At the festive press conference hosted by “Ball-Mutti” and Vice Honorary Consul Prof. Birgit Sarata, the long-kept secret was finally revealed: musical star Moritz Mausser is this year’s recipient of the celebrated Celebrity Cake.
For the ninth consecutive year, Vereinigung Wiener Staatsopernballett – the Association of the Vienna State Opera Ballet – shall inaugurate the ZuckerBäcker Ball, this time with a splendid classical waltz set to Wiener Blut (Op. 354).
The dancers bring to the stage that very joie de vivre which Johann Strauss (the Younger) so masterfully evokes in this celebrated waltz.
Sorcery meets exquisite craftsmanship: at this year’s Zuckerbäcker Award, once again the most artful and delectable cake shall be crowned – all under the enchanting motto “The Realm of the Magicians.”
Entries for the 16th Zuckerbäcker Award are now open. The imaginative creations of the nation’s most talented confectioners and apprentices will be presented at the 123rd ZuckerBäckerball, displayed in the grand foyer of the Hofburg, and judged live by a distinguished panel of experts.
